Following a recent incident,  it is essential to review the current Handbook and familiarise yourself with the duties required.

Always remember to stop and take 5 

 

OTPs are only authorised to travel/work within a possession of the line (with ES authority inside a worksite or with PICOP authority outside of a worksite).

The following movements are restricted to a maximum of 5 mph (10 km/h):
✓ over points
✓ anywhere within the sidings
✓ controlled from the ground
✓ where speed has not been given by the ES, PICOP or SWL

Other movements may be authorised by the ES, PICOP or SWL at a speed up to 25 mph (40km/h).

However, the OTP operator must always be able to stop the OTP within the distance that can be seen to be clear of any obstruction, or before reaching a hand signal that is being displayed.

All the movements of OTP must be controlled by the MC/CC from a safe position on the ground, where the OTP operator and controller can see each other, or stay in contact with each other. or riding on the leading end of the OTP if it is authorised in the EAC or ECC and is planned and documented in the OTP Plan.
